William Stavarski

April 9, 1920 — March 16, 2011

William J. Stavarski, 90, of Lincoln Park, , passed away March 16, 2011 in Reading Hospital & Medical Center where he was a patient since March 9th. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Terefenko) Stavarski since June 12, 1943. Born in Reading on April 9, 1920, he was the son of the late Anton and Sophia (Klimchak) Stavarski.


William was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School. He was a US Army veteran of WW2, receiving the WW2 Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars.


He was the owner of Art Knit Hosiery for 10 years and later plant manager of Camp Industries for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. John Baptist de LaSalle RCC, Shillington. William was a lifelong golfer, playing to the age of 89. He was a member of Reading Liederkranz and the Evergreen Country Club. He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music.


He was the beloved father to 2 daughters Eileen M. (Stavarski) wife of Thomas A. Gottschall of Spring Twp. and Anita L. (Stavarski) wife of Brian A. Trayer of South Heidelberg Twp.; 3 sons Richard P. husband of Bogda E. Stavarski of Perry Twp., Kenneth W. husband of Joan M. Stavarski of Ephrata and Thomas A. husband of Debra H. Stavarski of Spring Twp.; loving Pop Pop to 12 grandchildren Aaron, Lisa, Ryan, Jeff, Scott, Sherry, Greg, Monica, Mark, Ryan, Nathan and Julie; 17 great Grandchildren; a sister Margaret (Stavarski) Nelen of Jefferson City, Missouri and a brother George Stavarski of Shillington, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Andrew and sisters Sophie, Catherine, Anna and Irene.
