William J. Bates, 83, of Sinking Spring passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Marion (Gittens) and Ralph Bates. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Skimski) Bates, together they shared 60 years of marriage. William proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a Welder for Dana Corporation for 30+ years before his retirement. After retiring, William and Barbara traveled to most of the States, some of their favorites were Alaska and Hawaii, Europe, and Puerto Rico. William was a “Jack of All Trades” and would fix everything at his own house and his daughters, or he had the answers to their questions. When he wasn’t traveling or fixing something he could be found watching old westerns on the TV.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, William is survived by his children, Kim Bates, of Exeter, Melinda Bates (Matthew Grier) of Kenhorst, and Kevin Bates, of Pittsburgh, his 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. William is predeceased by his siblings, Jolene, Betty, and David.
