Wendell Datesman

Wendell A. Datesman, 86, of Spring Township, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Geraldine L. (Keck) Datesman married September 14, 1956. Born in PenArgyl, son of the late Carl W. and Margaret (Houser) Datesman. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Lori Kinney, wife of Kevin of Myerstown, PA; son, Andrew Datesman, husband of Jill, of Branchburg, NJ; grandchildren, Mark Kinney; Kara Ward, wife of Michael; Brian Datesman, husband of Caitlyn; and Dustin Datesman.
During his life he began his employment at Western Union in Washington, DC on December 26, 1954 as a plant tech after four years in the Us Air Force. Some highlights of his career in Western Union were the GSA Plan 54, Andrews Air Base Plan 55, Fuchu Japan 55, teaching at Chattanooga Training Center, testing Autodin Terminals, testing EMATS equipment, and EMATS at Panama Canal Zone. During this time he traveled and lived in various countries like England, France, and Germany. One of the many highlights of his career was developing the first Western Union on-line real time processing system for service trouble reporting and tracking (TFS). Upon retirement from Western Union in April 1985, he then was employed by Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in Bedminster, NJ for 11 years and retired in May 1996. He is also survived by three siblings, Dick, Kay Newton and Jerry as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Dyle.


Memorial Service will be held at Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue Sinking Spring, PA 19608, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00am. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00am-11:00am at the funeral home.
