Walter H. Singley, 86, of Wyomissing, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11:20 p.m. at Mifflin Center, where he had been a patient since November 4th.
Born in Ringtown, PA, he was the son of the late Oscar Singley and Margaret (Reichendeifer) Singley.
He was the husband of Helen C. (Faleski) Singley. The couple shared sixty wonderful years of marriage.
He served with the United States Army during World War II under General Patton's 3rd Army, Company G 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, and was a recipient of two purple hearts.
He worked as a carpenter for the Carpenters Union Local 492, the oldest union in the United States, for more than 40 years, retiring on August 31, 1988.
He was a member and on the Board of Directors of the Reber-Moore American Legion Post 635 in Shillington, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Name Council 7179.
He was amember of St. John Baptist de la Salle R.C.C. in Shillington, and a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Deborah A. (Singley), wife of Terry Hojnowski of Bernville, Donna M. (Singley), widow of Paul Namiotka of Reading, and Lydia J. Singley of West Lawn.
There is also one sister: Marion (Singley) Tomalis of Reading, and one sister in law: Connie Marx of West Reading, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is pre deceased by four brothers and three sisters.
