Walter Jurasinski

January 26, 1934 — August 4, 2018

Walter J. Jurasinski, 84, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Born and raised in Reading, PA, he lived in Exeter Township since 1966.

Walter was a 1952 graduate of Reading High School and attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute. He was drafted by the Army and served as a private from 1957 to 1959 spending the majority of his time in Europe. Upon his honorable discharge, Walter continued his education at Villanova University graduating in 1964 with a degree in Civil Engineering. During his time at Villanova, Walter was a Dean's list student and also inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society as recognition for his academic excellence.

Engineering was Walter's passion and after college he gained the need work experience, skills, and knowledge to pass the state exam and receive his PA Professional Engineering license in 1969.

Throughout his career Walter held various management and engineering positions. During his employment with Bethlehem Steel Corporation from 1964 to 1978, he worked on many large infrastructure projects including pipelines, buildings, and bridges. Later, as an Assistant Plant Manager for Air Products & Chemicals from 1978 to 1984, he oversaw engineering work on nuclear and cryogenic products fabrication.

In 2000, he started his own business, Professional Engineering Services and went on to obtain additional engineering licenses in six states. Walter work primarily on structural design and building certification, but also enjoyed solving the variety of other engineering problems his customers presented him.

To share his passion for engineering, Walter founded and moderated the Berks Catholic Engineering Club in 2012. Through this club, Walter was able to share his insights and advice to students considering a career in engineering.

Walter was a lifelong member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Reading where he regularly served as lector.

Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathleen, and his granddaughter Sarah Jurasinski. He is survived by two brothers, Mike of Reading, PA and Thomas of Dunedin, FL; two sisters, Anna Sajdak of Reading, PA and Sister Mary Cecilia of Philadelphia, PA; three sons; Craig, husband of Sherry (Walizer) Jurasinski of Seaville, NJ; David, husband of Jennifer (Amsden) Jurasinski of Cooperstown, NY, and Mark, husband of Sandy (Yenser) Jurasinski of Exeter Twp, PA. Other survivors include; three grandchildren; Joseph, Augustus and Faith Jurasinski; and sister-in-law Marilyn Katrinak, of Ocean City, NJ.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of Saint George at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 10:00 am. Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Orsulak, Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Monday, August 13, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
