Vera Wert

Vera Katharine Wert, 95, of Spring Township, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10:00 am in her home. She was the wife of the late Warren R. Wert, who passed away September 23, 2015 and to whom she married on November 30, 1940 by Reverend Glenn Switzer, in First Presbyterian Church, Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Reading on May 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thomas U. and Anna E. (Bucks) Stoudt. Mrs. Wert was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School and a member of Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn. She was a life member of Reading High School Alumni Association; Life Member of West Lawn Senior Citizens and First Historian of former Berks County Legal Secretaries Association. Mrs. Wert worked in the office of Carpenter Technology during World War II from 1944-1948 and was a judicial secretary for 48 years(1954-2002) to the late Judge Paul N. Schaeffer and Judge Forrest G. Schaeffer, of the Court of Common Pleas of Berks County, retiring in January of 2002. She was commissioned a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1954-1990). Together with her late husband Warren, traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, South Pacific, Africa and the Far East. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii where she visited 9 times. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved family get togethers, enjoyed having lunch with her friends, enjoyed reading and loved animals, especially Max and Rambler, her granddogs. Mrs. Wert is survived by her children Beverly Ann (Wert) Bansner, wife of Philip T. Bansner of Wyomissing and Craig D. Wert, husband of Marcia Ann (Spraut) Wert of Exeter Township along with her grandchildren Bradley Todd Bansner, Karen Lynn (Bansner) DeFrees and Christopher Michael Wert and her great grandchildren Christine Bansner, Benjamin Taylor Bansner, Isabella Lynn DeFrees, Alexandra DeFrees and Mackenzie DeFrees.
Funeral Services will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00 am. Reverend Mark R. Rigg will officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday 9-10:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Human Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in memory of Mrs. Vera Katharine Wert.
