Valeria Karpen, 97, of Wernersville and formerly of Reading, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at Reading Hospital. She was the wife of the late William L. Karpen who passed away August 1, 2009. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Mrs. Karpen was the daughter of the late Bela and Susan (Jencsy) Racz. She was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Reading. Mrs. Karpen was a World War II refugee and lived in a displaced persons camp in Brannenburg, Bavaria, Germany for 6 years from 1945-1951. In 1951, First Presbyterian Church in Reading sponsored Mrs. Karpen to come to the Reading area. She was employed by the Reading Eagle as a bookkeeper for over 25 years. She was a lover of antiques, and with her husband was an antique dealer in Adamstown for 24 years, most of that time at Black Angus Antique Mall. Mrs. Karpen is survived by her son Dr. Jeffrey W. Karpen of Middletown, New York.
Memorial Service will be held at Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Reverend Chris DiVietro will officiate. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Sunday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
