Thomas Shimp

Thomas G. Shimp, 73, of Spring Township, passed away Wednesday January 27, 2021 at 6:00 pm in his residence. He was the husband of the late Betty Jane (Rhode) Shimp.  Born in Reamstown, Mr. Shimp was the son of the late Galen K. and Mildred W. (Schnader) Shimp.  He served in the United States Army Reserves and attended Muddy Creek Lutheran Church.  Mr. Shimp was employed by Hoover Motors from 1966-1975 as an auto body painter and then by Penske Truck Leasing from 1975-2012 also as an auto body painter.  He enjoyed gardening.  Mr. Shimp is survived by his children Tracy L. Gartland, wife of Edward A. Gartland of Mohnton; Scott T. Shimp, husband of Tracy V. Shimp of China Grove, NC; step children Barbara Griffith, wife of Dudley Griffith of Wernersville; Debbie Swoffer, wife of David Swoffer of Wernersville; Kevin Knarr, companion of Fran Hluska of Rome, New York; Jimmy Knarr, Jr. husband of Angie Knarr of Bangor, Maine; Charlie Knarr, companion of Shannon of Reading and his 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and his siblings Jere L. Shimp, husband of Joan Shimp of Ephrata; Gail M. Bare, wife of Ted Bare of Ephrata and 3 nieces.  He is also survived by his partner Linda L. Geiger with whom he last resided.

Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm.  Reverend Robert S. Ziehmer will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home Wednesday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
