Theodore Reitz

September 18, 1926 — April 10, 2010

Theodore C. "Ted" Reitz, 83, of Sinking Spring, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at home.


Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Lester S. Reitz and Magdalene (Crouse) Reitz.


He was the husband of Vivian (Miller) Reitz. The couple shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.


He was employed for 39 years by Gilbert Commonwealth Inc. as a mechanical engineer, working on the design and construction of power plants. He was a licensed professional engineer in PA.


Reitz was a Navy Veteran of World War II, serving as an Aviation Electronics Technician mate.


He graduated from Reading High School in 1944, and the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Tau Beta PI, and Sigma Tau.


Reitz was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee, steward, and on church council.


He was a senior member of the Instrument Society of America, including two years as director of the power division. He served numerous technical conferences as the program chairman, author, and reviewer & received the Power Division National Achievement Award.


Ted's interests included bowling (a member of the 700 club), and the HOBO's investment club where he served as president and treasurer in past years.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by son: David V., husband of Susan Reitz of Sinking Spring; and daughters: Cathy R. (Reitz) Mensch, wife of Glen Mesch of Harleysville, and Elizabeth R. (Reitz) Focht, wife of Darryl Focht of Wyomissing.


There are also six grandchildren: Amy, Diana, Nathan, Brooke, Bryan, and Kevin.


He is also survived by his brother: Curtis R. Reitz of Philadelphia.
