Susan M. Boltz, 60, of Sinking Spring, PA, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 18, 2017, after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Sue fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our dear sister.
Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald J. and Violet H. (Ogorzalek) Boltz.
Sue graduated from Holy Name High School Class of 1975. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Science in Physical Education from West Chester University.
In 1981 Sue was awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Merit for a life rescue. The highest award presented by the Red Cross to an individual who saves or sustains a life by using skills learned in a volunteer training program offered by the Red Cross.
Sue started her career as a Pediatric Physical Therapist for two intermediate units in Pittsburgh, PA and Lewistown, PA. She relocated to Philadelphia to become the Chief Physical Therapist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and later at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Upon her return to Berks County, Sue did rehabilitation home care for a number of agencies and was last employed at the Surgical Institute of Reading as a Physical Therapist.
During her 35-year career, Sue touched the lives of many people and cared for all her patients with empathy and compassion. Helping children learn to walk and assisting knee and hip replacement patients get back on their feet gave her the greatest joy in life. Being a Physical Therapist is what defined her.
Sue was a voracious reader and would make weekly trips to the library. She loved travelling the world and spending time at the family beach house in Delaware. Sue enjoyed antique shops and flea markets; loved working in her garden and cheering for the Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sue is survived by her sister, Alison Boltz, with whom she resided; her sister Stacey Sassaman of Shillington; and her sweet rescue dog, Emma.
Friends and relatives are welcome to a Celebration of Life Service being held on November 22, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, PA. Interment will follow the service at Mohnsville Cemetery.
