Stephen Craig Schneider, son of Herbert Schneider, of Reading, and the late Shirley (Rekoon) Schneider, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Reading Hospital. He was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1966, where he was salutatorian, voted Most Likely to Succeed, and delivered the Farewell Address. In 1965, he won the Impromptu Essay Award at the Key Club International Convention. "Craig" was a graduate of Yale University in 1971, after serving a year in VISTA. In summer, he taught scuba diving in Bermuda and, later, in Puerto Rico. Upon graduation, he taught English in Paris, France.
He later moved to New York City, where he became a book editor. He was an avid hiker, completing the Appalachian Trail and the Colorado Trail. It was while hiking the Pyrenees Trail from France to Spain that he was diagnosed with cancer.
He is survived by his two sisters, Nancy Nagle, wife of Douglas Nagle, Howard, Ohio, and Penny Beitman, Harrisburg, along with many nephews and nieces.
Graveside services will be held in Shomrei Habrith Cemetery, Routes 724 & 10, Cumru Twp., July 5, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Rabbi Yosef Y. Lipsker will officiate.
