Shirley Schwartz

Shirley A. (Naftzinger) Schwartz, 92, formerly of Wyomissing passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in the Reading Hospital.  Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Minerva (Guldin) and Paul F. Naftzinger.  She was the beloved wife of the late Matthew B. Schwartz who passed away March 27, 2004.  Shirley graduated from Reading High School in 1948 and continued her education at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated from in 1951.  She served as Treasurer of her Nursing School Class for 50 years.  Shirley worked as a Registered Nurse at the Women’s Clinic in West Reading for 14 years and as a Nurse Consultant for Aetna Healthcare in Reading for 8 years.  She was able to enjoy retirement in 1993.  She was a Charter Member of Van Reed Auxiliary of the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.  Shirley was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Reading.  She was an avid reader and loved playing games with her fellow residents at Phoebe Berks.  Shirley was loved by all and will be missed greatly.

Shirley is survived by her children, Todd B. Schwartz, husband of Yoko Nishiguchi of Florida and Kenda A. Schwartz, of Colorado.  Also surviving are her grandchildren; Christin, wife of Michael Alekna, Coryn, wife of Bryan Kutz, Colleen B., wife of Gregory Burton, and Caitlin, wife of Matthew Durling, and her great grandchildren; Carter, Lexington, Cameron, and Wyatt.
