Sarah Smith

Sarah Eleanor Smith, 93, of Wernersville, passed away August 3, 2015 in The Reading Hospital.
She was the wife Donald A. Smith, who passed away in 1952.
Born in Tamaqua, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence (Jones) Southam.
Sarah was a graduate of Tamaqua High School and the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She worked her entire nursing career at the Reading Hospital for over 30 years. She was affectionately known as "Pookie", "Smitty" or "Shortie" by her friends, family and co-workers.
She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring and volunteered at the Sinking Spring Library. Sarah was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son Gary L. Smith, husband of Rusty Diamond, Harrisburg; grandchildren Joshua, Jillian and Jason, husband of Valerie; great-grandchildren Gianna and Ava. She was preceded in death by her son Donald B. Smith, two brothers and a sister.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sarah's memory to American Heart Association: 212 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and/or Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Friday, August 7, 2015 at 1:30pm, Rev. Richard L. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Shoemakersville. The family will receive friends and family 12:30- 1:30pm.
