Sara Y. Houck, 93, of Bern Township, passed away June 21, 2016 in Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital.
She was the widow of Larry E. Houck, who passed away August 11, 1992.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Jared G. and Nona P. (Geiger) Yarnell.
Mrs. Houck was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Reading, where she volunteered in the soup kitchen and of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband were co-owners of Reading Merchants Oil Company, retiring in 1978.
Sara was an avid reader and puzzler and she especially cherished her visits from her family during the summer months at her pool.
Surviving is a daughter Karen P. Levesque, wife of Roger G., Bern Twp., son in laws Robert J. Scholar, Bern Twp., John S. Vespico, Wyomissing, who were like sons; four grandchildren Lisa M. Vespico, Juliette P. Levesque, Cory J. Scholar, Philippe A. Levesque and six great-grandchildren Jordan, Trevor, Sammy, Chelsey, Spencer and Miles. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lindy E. Scholar and sister Jaredine Gosch.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Houck's memory to Humane Society of Berks County 1801 North N. 11th Street, Reading, and/or St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 100 W. Windsor Street, Reading, PA 19601.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
