Ruth E. Sfingas, 88, of Spring Township, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 8:10pm in her residence. She was the wife of Richard E. Sfingas. Born in Reading, Mrs. Sfingas was the daughter of the late Brooke T. and Jeanette E. (Seaman) Wertz. Mrs. Sfingas attended Saint Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church and was employed as an order filler at IZOD in Reading for 13 years then was employed at Boscov’s Department Stores for 25 years. Ruth was a lover of plants, especially her prized orchids. She also loved cooking for her family, shopping, playing bingo whenever she could, cruises, traveling to Hawaii, and Disney vacations with her grandchildren. Most importantly though, she loved being everyone’s “Nana”.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sfingas is survived by her children, Denise R. Lengel, loving companion of Kevin Taylor of Sinking Spring; Richard B. Sfingas husband of Eileen Sfingas of Temple, her grandchildren Kristen Kriebel, Melissa Kaucher, Richard Sfingas, Rachel Haines, Michael Lutz, Tyler Henry, Shannon Aquila, as well as her 14 great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Mrs. Sfingas is also survived by her siblings Carol Hafer of Pottstown and Elizabeth Vogel of Pottstown and was preceded in death by her daughter Diane Henry, and her siblings, Charles Wertz, Doris Krick, Carl B. Wertz, and William Wertz.
Prayer Service will be held at the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:30am. Reverend Thomas P. Bortz will officiate. Ruth’s family asks that you wear your favorite florals, bright colors, or anything Disney as a way to celebrate her life, and the joy and exuberance she brought to those around her.
