Ruth Gilbert

Ruth J. "Nana" Gilbert, 91, of Bern Twp., passed away May 2, 2016 in Mifflin Center.
She was the widow of Melvin R. Gilbert who passed away July 17, 1996.
Born in Jacksonwald, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob M. and Sadie L. (Ritter) LeVan.
Mrs. Gilbert was a 1942 graduate of Mt. Penn High School.
Surviving are her children Gary R. Gilbert, Exeter Twp.; Kathy L. Lubas, wife of Kenneth, Exeter Twp.; Barbara J. Burkhart, wife of Richard, Exeter Twp., Cynthia A. Petro, wife of Scott, Bern Twp., seven grandchildren Kimberly Gilbert, Michael Gilbert, Jeffrey Lubas, Matthew Burkhart, Ryan Lubas, Jenna Petro and Megan Petro and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Anna Fedor, Emma Binckley, Russell LeVan, Frances Barth and Amy Dorn.
Nana was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed crabbing, clamming and fishing in Delaware, going to casinos and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and 76ers fan. She loved spending time with her family and had a special way with children and was affectionately known to everyone as Nana.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 6 Fairlane Road, Reading, Exeter Twp., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00am, Rev. Scott A. Staub officiating. Burial will follow in Schwarzwald Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00-11:00am.
