Roy Heckman

Roy R. Heckman, 83, of Coatesville, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 2:30 am in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Slonaker) Heckman. Born in Temple, he was the son of the late John N. and Kathryn (Koller) Heckman. Mr. Heckman was a 1951 graduate of Muhlenberg High School where he lettered in basketball, football, baseball and track and field as well as being named captain of the football team his senior year. He also attended Albright College. Mr. Heckman served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a hospital corpsman. He was an insurance agent for John Hancock in Reading and later became vice president of Allied American Agencies and District sales manager of the former American Mutual Insurance Company. He was a member of St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ in Chester Springs where he was a former member of the consistory and choir. He loved animals, music and played multiple musical instruments. Mr. Heckman served on the Muhlenberg Township Recreation Board, was a coach for MTAA and Bethel Park Township Colt baseball and was one of the first drivers when the Muhlenberg Volunteer Ambulance was founded. In addition to his wife Patricia, Mr. Heckman is survived by his children Pamela K. Heckman and Kyle S. Heckman both of Coatesville and was preceded in death by his brother Nelson J. Heckman.
Funeral Services will be held in Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Douglas E. Hanson will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 10-11:00 am.
