Roy Baardsen

On November 1, 2022, Roy Baardsen passed away unexpectedly during a routine medical visit. Roy was born in New York City on February 21st 1942, to his Norwegian parents Olaf and Tomine. He spent most of his life in New York City (Brooklyn and Staten Island), moving to Reading in 1998. After his early retirement, he embraced Berks County, made many friends, and was able to continue his lifelong pursuit of stamp collecting. He was an active member of the Reading Stamp Collectors Club, serving as their vice president, and arranging many of the clubs trips and stamp show events. He was also a member of the Philatelic Society of Lancaster County.

In 1962, Roy married the love of his life, Astrid. They had one daughter, Karen, in 1974. While in New York, spent most of his working life as a phone installer working for AT&T, later Lucent. He was a loving family man owning several dogs and cultivating many deep and lasting friendships over the years.

Despite many hardships in his life, Roy was always happy, and cheerful and contentedly worked through his hardships. He was truly an inspiration to those who loved him. He is pre-deceased into by his wife, Astrid; his parents; and his brother Bernhard and nephew Eric

He is survived by his daughter Karen; his niece Christine Carroll (husband Paul) and three great nephews Shaun, Ryan and Evan, his great niece Alexa and great, great nephew Jensen and also his sister-in-law Helen Baardsen.

His passing will also be mournfully felt by his closest friends Mike Matus, Pete Baney, Nikki Samuels and Mike and Lee Bach. If you would like to honor his memory, in lieu of flowers please donate to Humane Pennsylvania / Humane Society of Berks County, 1729 N 11th Street Reading PA 19604.

Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 am.  Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate.  Interment will follow at Sinking Spring Cemetery.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Friday, November 11, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:30 am to 10:00 am.  Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
