Robert D. Sarge, Jr., 94, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away June 6, 2011 in ManorCare Health Services, Inc. in Muhlenberg Twp., where he resided three weeks. He was the husband of Ida M. (Valentine) Sarge who passed away January 19, 2004. Born in Reading on May 17, 1917, he was the son of the late Robert D. Sarge, Sr. and the late Elsie (Greth) Sarge.
He was a US Army veteran of World War 2 serving from May 1945 until July 1946 in the First Infantry Division.
He worked as a machine operator at Continental Can Co. for 14 years, later owned the Blandon House Bar for 5 years, and last worked at Exide Battery as a machine operator for 24 years retiring in 1982. He was a Life Member of Haag Post #378 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Original Boombas Club of The Happy Boombadears, Reading Chapter.
Surviving are 2 sons Robert D. Sarge, III husband of Mary of Tampa, FL and Richard G. Sarge husband of Joyce of Fleetwood; a step son Donald H. Beamesderfer husband of Gloria of West Lawn; 3 grandchildren Bret Sarge, Todd Sarge and David Sarge; 2 step grandchildren Todd Beamesderfer and Ahn Marie Priest; 10 great grandchildren : 2 step great grandchildren and a companion Ingrin.
