Robert J. Rothenberger, 92, passed away in Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by his family, Sunday, January 28, 2018. He was born on June 1, 1925 to George Rothenberger and Sally (Yoder) Rothenberger. Bob grew up in Reading and attended Muhlenberg High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. His ship the "USS Hobby" escorted the "USS New Jersey" in the South Pacific. His fleet endured one of the worst typhoons in naval history, losing three ships, as well as direct fire from the Japanese. He worked as a supervisor at Rosedale and Leininger Knitting Mills for many years and also worked at PA Pubs and Mast Engineering. Bob go married to June Hare in 1950. They were happily married for 67 years, enjoying many fun times with their families. He loved the comradely at the "Golden Rod" hunting camp near Lockhaven, PA for 60 plus years, where he was known as "Captain Bob". He also thoroughly enjoyed landscaping and taking care of his property. He is survived by his wife June, son Dennis, Mary Beth, and his sister Edna Kantner, his many nieces and nephews affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Bobby". Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sally, brothers Dan, Glenn, Bill and sisters Lil, Elsie, Grace, Verna and Annie.
Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 9:30 am. Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
