Robert Mcconnell

Robert R. McConnell, 92, formerly of SinkingSpring, passed away October 22, 2010 at 2:23 pm in Stone Ridge Retirement Living at Poplar Run, Myerstown a resident for 23 years. He was the huband of the late Mildred E. (Wilhelm) McConnell who passed away in 1982 and the late Christine (Peters) McConnell who passed away in 1996. Born in Lebanon, December 8, 1917, he was the son of the late Raymond W. and Esther J. (Underkoffler) McConnell. He was a 1934 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1938 graduate of Wyomissing Poly Tech. He was a design and process engineer for Wright Aeronautical Corp. in Patterson, NJ from 1940-1949. From 1949-1955 he operated Mac's Corner Grocery Store with his father in Lebanon and for 20 years he was employed by Textile Machine Works as a design and process engineer retiring in 1976. He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lebanon. He was a member of choir and played piano and organ at West Lawn United Methodist Church, was founder and charter member of Lincoln Park Swim Asso., in 1958, established sin a long group and played organ and piano at Stone Ridge. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, clocks and stained glass.Mr. McConnell is survived by his daughters Kathleen C. wife of Robert K. Diem of North Wales, PA and Carol L. wife of Jan E. Maurits of Vancouver, Washington along with grandchildren Scott Klopp, Rebecca Diem and Jeremy Diem and great grandchildren Kevin Klopp, Travis Klopp, Adeline Diem, Claire Diem. Also surving is his sister Pearl Jane Campbell of Lancaster and he was preceded in death by his brother Elwood M. McConnell and step daughter Barbara Wendt in 1998. He is also survived by his step son in law Gary Wendt of Harrisburg, step granddaughter Suzanne wife of Robert Mack of Newark, DE and step great grandchildren Andrew and Eric Mack
