Robert Hornberger

July 12, 1923 — March 4, 2016

Robert F. Hornberger, 92, of Wernersville, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at 9:52 pm in his home. He was the husband of Maxine (Green) Fry Hornberger. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late William W. and Bertha I. (Fretz) Hornberger. Mr. Hornberger was a 1941 graduate of Lebanon High School, of Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute and a 1951 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the sea of Japan on the submarine USS Pogy (SS-266) when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed. He was employed by Textile Machine Works as a machinist and then as a senior engineer at AT&T for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Hornberger loved to play golf and enjoyed music, playing in the Senior Encore Orchestra for 30 years and the Shrine Concert Band for 20 years. He was a member St. John's Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring and a member of Masonic Lodge #62 F&AM.
In addition to his wife Maxine, Mr. Hornberger is survived by his son Bryan, husband of Judith Hornberger of Wyomissing; step sons David, husband of Linda Lewis of Richmond, Virginia; Daniel, husband of Monica Lewis of Poughkeepsie, New York; Scott Kolb, husband of Cindy Kolb of Knauers; Kevin Kolb, husband of Krista Kolb of Leesport; step daughters Susan P. Colten, widow of Thomas Colten of Chicago, Illinois; and Amy Neumeier, wife of Gene Neumeier of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by 12 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. Mr. Hornberger was preceded in death by his brother G. Arthur Hornberger.
Mr. Hornberger's Life will be celebrated in St. John's Lutheran Church 4125 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, PA 19608 on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Richard L. Moore will officiate. Interment will be held privately by the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in St. John's Lutheran Church Saturday 10-11:00 am. Contributions may be made to either St. John's Lutheran Church at the above address; Berks Visiting Nurses-Hospice Association, 1170 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610; or Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140 in memory of Mr. Robert F.
