Robert S. Hemig, 89, of Shillington, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Howard E. Hemig and Elsie M. (Scheirer) Hemig, and widower of the late Jane L. (Ludwig) Hemig, who passed away August 3, 1993.
He was a 1937 graduate of Shillington High School, and US Army Veteran during World War II, serving with the 12th Division, 4th Infantry. He was also an U.S. Army Band Drum Major.
He worked as a Banker, specializing in commercial loans for Meridian Bank for 35 years, retiring on December 31, 1984, and a member of St. John's U.C.C.- Sinking Spring.
He was a member and former treasurer of the Reading Lodge #548 F & AM, former director of the Emeritas of the Rajah Temple Concert Band; a member of the Rajah Temple Legion of Honor; and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of the Reading Choir. He was also the former director Emeritas of the Wyomissing Band Inc.; a Life Member of the Sharonhill Fire Co; a Life Member of the Hampden Marching Unit; a volunteer fireman for 33 years; was elected Auditor for Cumru Twp. for 6 yrs., and had an article published in the Reading Eagle on October 19, 1964 on "Banker with a Baton".
He is survived by his daughters: Kathleen L. (Hemig), wife of William Falter of Sinking Spring, and Mary Lou (Hemig), wife of David Daubert of Mohnton.
There are also seven grandchildren: Beth, Jodi, Chistopher, Ryan, Scott, Michael, and Allison; and a great granddaughter: Kaitlyn.
He is also survived by his brother: Llewellyn R. Hemig of Montrose Manor.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is pre deceased by a son: R Scott Hemig, who passed away on April 22, 2007.
