Robert Gutmann

Robert C. Gutmann, 78, husband of Rosemarie Gutmann of Wyomissing PA, passed away Saturday August 18, 2018 at home. He is survived by his son Robert and his wife Gina Crance Gutmann, and his only granddaughter Carly Joy Gutmann of Sinking Spring. He also leaves behind his beloved cat Henry.
Born on May 10, 1940 in Queens, New York Robert (Bob) was the son of the late Charles and Anna Gutmann.
Mr. Gutmann grew up in New York and in Bennington, Vermont. He graduated from Bennington Highschool in 1958 and returned to NY with his parents. He then studied Graphic Design and illustration at Pratt University. A talented artist, with a keen eye, Mr. Gutmann earned his BA in 1962 and enjoyed a long career in the design industry in Manhattan. Mr. Gutmann was a designer and a salesman crafting advertisements and labels for products by hand. Mr. Gutmann was energized by his work and told amusing stories of designing products and meeting the celebrity spokes people who endorsed those products.
Mr. Gutmann was an avid art and antique collector and dealer. His love was pottery, porcelain art glass and fine art. He was a very well-known antique expert in the Long Island and New York areas as he attended shows, appraised art and hunted for bargains over the course of his life time. He also loved opera and theater and volunteered for many years at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
Mr. Gutmann and his wife Rosemarie moved to Berks County in 2009 to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and spend time together in his retirement. He enjoyed the rich antique life of central Pennsylvania, volunteering at the Reading Leiderkrantz society, and watching his granddaughter grow up. Mr. Gutmann was blessed to have the love, support and care of Rosemarie, his wife of 53 years.
Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring Friday, August 24, 2018 at 6:00 pm. Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home Friday 4:00-6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League of Berks County 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in memory of Mr. Robert C. Gutmann.
