Robert M. Clay, 82, of Laureldale, passed away April 14, 2009 at 12:55 AM in Wyomissing Nursing and Rehab Center where he resided since April 11, 2009. He was the husband of Irene R. (Schweitzer) Clay who passed away September 30, 1996. Born in Reading on January 30, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry J. and Reba (Kupp) Clay.


Mr. Clay served as a Sergeant in the Army Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a sheet metal worker by Sheet Metal Worker's Union Local 19 in Philadelphia for 34 years until retiring in 1988. Robert was a member of Riverside Beneficial Assn., Pikeville Rod and Gun Club, the former VFW Post # 5324 and the former Charles H. Steel American Legion Post # 622.


Surviving are 2 daughters Helen I. (Delp) wife of Richard Bond of Leesport and Joyce A. (Delp) wife of Terry Fegley of Fleetwood, a son Nelson J. Delp of Reading, 8 grandchildren Cynthia Price, Nelson Delp Jr., Susan Delp, Keith Bond, Audrey Cortez, Robin Artz, Andrew Bond and Chrisy-Lynn Hewitt, 22 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and a nephew James Howe.
