Robert Becker

July 12, 1938 — August 9, 2017

Robert Howard Becker died August 9, 2017 in the arms of his wife Sandra Louise Becker. They were married almost 45 years. They called Wyomissing home for the last 2 years and lived in Mifflin Park for 43 years.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Robert W. and E. Virginia (Favinger) Becker.

Mr. Becker was a 1955 graduate of Reading High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Albright College in 1959, a master's degree in Science education from Temple University in 1964, and master's degree of Education from Kutztown University in 1974.

Robert was a mathematics teacher at Governor Mifflin for 34 years. He was known for the "Becker Method" of solving problems. He was thorough and expected students to strive to learn mathematics. He loved puzzles, games, and humor. Recently he admitted that he wanted to be a comedy writer.

Robert wrote articles for the Mathematics teacher and enjoyed Mad Magazine. He was a fan of Big Band and Jazz music.

Robert was a life member of the South Berks Association of School Retirees, The Berks County ASR, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the PSEA-R groups.

Over the years we became guardians of older or challenged cats from the Humane Society and Animal Rescue League. We ask that contributions in Robert's memory be made to the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in lieu of flowers. Robert truly loved his cats.

Both Bob and Sandy are grateful for the support and care offered by both the Highlands staff and Heartland Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 7-8:30PM and Tuesday from 9-11:00AM. The interment will follow the service at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
