Richard S. Werner, Jr. 67, of Lower Heidelberg Township, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 7:30 am in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Margie (Savage) Werner. Born in Scranton, Mr. Werner was the son of Dorothy (Martin) Werner a resident at Stone Ridge Retirement Village, Myerstown and the late Richard S. Werner, Sr. He was of the Catholic Faith and was employed for 37 years as a train engineer for SEPTA until his retirement. Mr. Werner is also survived by his daughters Jessica L. Rostek wife of Troy A. Rostek of Sinking Spring; Rebecca S. Werner fiancé of Brad Stevenson of Mohrsville; Sarah E. Werner of Pottsville and his step-sons Nicholas Kostomiris husband of Marina Kostomiris of Berlin, Germany; Demetrios Kostomiris husband of Truc Pham of Belmont, Massachusetts; Michael Kostomiris of Hawthorn, New Jersey and his 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by his brother Paul G. Werner husband of Nanette Werner of Virginia.

Richard was a devoted train engineer for over 37 years who spent a lifetime immersed in the world of railways, dedicating his days to ensuring smooth journeys and sharing his infectious love for trains with everyone he encountered.

From a young age he was captivated by the rhythm of train wheels on the tracks. He turned that childhood fascination into a career of service, embodying the spirit of dedication and pride as he guided countless passengers safely and joyously along their paths. He was a proud member of many railway enthusiast groups/associations always sharing his wisdom and passion with fellow train lovers.

Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:30 pm. Amy S. Landis, Celebrant will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Saturday from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Mr. Richard S.
