Richard Slater

Richard Irving Slater, 90, of Muhlenberg Twp. and formerly of Ontelaunee Twp., passed away December 21, 2009 at 5:05 AM in ManorCare Health Services Laureldale where he resided since November 11th. He was the husband of Doris Virginia (Grater) Slater who passed away June 26, 2004. Born in Reading on May 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Clarence David Slater and the late Mazie May (Pleis) Slater.

He was a 1937 graduate of Reading High School, attended Perkiomen Prep School and the Wharton School of Business and served in the US Army Air Force during World War 2 from 1942 until 1946. Mr. Slater was the owner and president of Whitman Realty and Insurance Company of Reading for 30 years. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Kutztown. He was a life member of the Benevelent and Protective Order of Elks in Reading.

Surviving are a daughter Dr. Ina May (Slater) Grapenthin wife of Warren H. Grapenthin of Muhlenberg Twp., 2 grandchildren Mark Richard Grapenthin-Still and Amelia Lynn (Grapenthin) Noonan and a great grandson Liam Patrick Noonan.
