Richard E. Lykens, 82, of Union Twp., passed away September 20, 2010 at 10:50 PM in Reading Hospital & Medical Center where he was a patient for several hours. He was the husband of Elsie E. (Hartman) Lykens. Born in Berks County on June 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Florence M. (Degler) Lykens.
Richard attended Birdsboro High School and was a US Navy veteran of World War 2.
Mr. Lykens was employed as a lineman and testman by Conestoga Telephone for 46 years retiring in 1992.
He was an avid golfer and played fast pitch softball. He also loved the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 sons Richard S. (Scott) Lykens husband of Vickie L. Lykens of Douglassville and Randall D. (Randy) Lykens husband of Cindy L. Lykens of Bernville, 1 grandson Steve Lykens and 3 granddaughters Nikki, Kelsie and Jessi Lykens, 1 step grandson Derek Ruth, 2 brothers Donald G. Lykens of Lynhurst, OH and Ernest D. Lykens of Yorkville, IL and a sister Louise A. (Lykens) Bell of Birdsboro.
