Richard Gilbert

Richard L. Gilbert, 81, of Rittenhouse Senior Living, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 4:45 am in Mifflin Center. He was the husband of the late Sylvia J. (Maurer) Gilbert who passed away July 26, 2001 and to whom he was married to for 42 years. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Blouch) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a paper coater for the former Wyomissing Paper. He loved to cook in his younger days and kept his family well fed. He also loved to sing along and listen to the Southern Gospel Music and his favorite place to hang out was Johnny and Hans on Kutztown Road. Mr. Gilbert is survived by his daughters Sandra L. Kramer, wife of James R. Kramer of Kenhorst and Christine M. Schuler of Reading along with his grandchildren Michael Kramer; Brandon Kramer, husband of Tabitha Kramer; Rachel Kramer; Joshua Schuler, husband of Quiana Schuler; Christy Schuler and Bobbi Jo Higgins, wife of Michael Higgins and his great grandchildren Jennifer Higgins; Rebecca Higgins; William Higgins; Keoni Schuler; Malina Schuler; Karson Kramer; Damien Hutcherson and Gabriel Hutcherson. He was preceded in death by his brother Gerald Gilbert and great grandson Jonathan Schuler.
Graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Alsace Cemetery. Reverend Monsignor John J. Grabish will officiate.
