Richard J. Ferry, 92, of Reading, passed away Wednesday September 1, 2021 at 9:30 am at Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary G. (Mura) Ferry with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. Mr. Ferry was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret (McCarrick) Ferry in 1999. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Ferry was the son of the late Richard and Gladys (MacAndrew) Ferry. He had earned his doctorate in theology and philosophy. Mr. Ferry was employed by Ziff-Davis Information Services as a sales person and then sales manager. He also taught anatomy to nursing students at Mater Miscordia Academy in Philadelphia. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ferry is survived by his sons Dr. Gerald W. Ferry, husband of Dr. Victoria G. Ferry of Reading and Dr. Christopher J. Ferry, husband of Tim Ziaukas of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his step-daughters Carrie Witherspoon of Denver, Colorado; Laura Christman, wife of Clifford Christman of Lancaster and Lisa Reick, wifeof Claude Reick of Lake Wynonah, Schuylkill County. Also surviving are his grandchildren Megan, Daniel, Matthew, Gabrielle; great grandchildren Owen, Amelia, Luke, Lola; step-grandchildren Ryan, Ashlee, Claude John; and step-great grandchild Roman. Mr. Ferry is also survived by his brother Ronald Ferry, husband of Marlene Ferry of Ephrata and was preceded in death by his sister Gladys Dooner, wife of Robert Dooner of Beaufort, South Carolina.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1605 Rockland Street, Hampden Heights, Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 6:00 pm. Reverend David Reinwald will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Thursday 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 in memory of Mr.
