Richard Boone

April 15, 1930 — July 14, 2009

Richard S. Boone of Wyomissing, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the age of 79 years. He was the husband of Florence M. (Cappadona) Ketner Boone. Mr. Boone was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria R. (Smith) Boone. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Stanley A. and Minerva(Seifrit) Boone. He attended the University of South Carolina where he studied industrial engineering. He served as a Sgt. in the United States Air Force serving 17 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1965. Mr. Boone was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Mt. Penn for 11 years, retiring in 1976 and then worked in Quality Control for Construction Fasteners in Wyomissing for 6 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Reading where he was a Deacon Emeritus and coordinator of Keenagers Club. He also served as a Greeter. Richard Boone was a man of great faith who dearly loved his wife and family. He was adored by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he delighted in making people laugh. In addition to his wife , he is survived by his son, R. Daniel, husband of Debora L. Boone of Mohrsville and his step daughters, Donna M. wife of Rev. David E. Gundrum of Reinholds; Deborah L. Ketner of Reading; Denise J., wife of Gary C. Commings and Diane L., wife of Mitchel W. Carroll of Sinking Spring. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa A. wife of Christopher Texter; Timothy A. Romig, Jr.; James F. Romig; Natalie E. wife of Jonathan Sodomin, serving with the National Guard in Iraq; Nicole D. Gundrum; Nina R. Gundrum; Ryan J. Commings; Taylor L. Commings; Ashley E. wife of Quentin J. Lapp; Scott P. Carroll; Whitney E. Carroll and Paige L. Carroll along with 5 great grandchildren, Gabriella Sodomin; Isabella Sodomin; Jade Carroll; Madison Carroll; Ally Texter. Mr. Boone is also survived by a sister Barbara Ann, wife of Daniel Pettinato of Reading. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Russell Boone; brother Paul Boone; sisters Gladys McDowell and Arlene Sarzynski. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
