Raymond Iglesias

December 20, 1940 — November 26, 2015

Gone but never to be forgotten: Raymond L. Iglesias, 74, passed away peacefully in Reading Hospital surrounded by family on November 26, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 20, 1940, he lived there until 2000 when he moved to Reading with his wife Shirley. He enjoyed a typical Brooklyn childhood in the 1950's and 1960's. He was the son of the late Antoinette (Scaglione) McManus and Carlos Iglesias. His stepfather, Timothy McManus is also deceased.
His high school was the infamous Manual Training where his favorite subject was American History. He always enjoyed a goo political discussion. Ray was a New York City Subway Conductor for over 24 years. Before that he worked as an Assistant Manager for over 12 years at several Bickfords Restaurants. He also drove a New York cab and was a limousine driver.
As a subway conductor, Ray assisted a New York Transit Police Officer in saving a passenger who was attempting to commit suicide. For this, Ray received a Civilian Citation Certificate of Heroism in 1980.
Ray enjoyed classical music, bagpipe music, souse marches, Hank Williams, inventor Nik Tesh, artist Diego Rivera and the opera Carmen.
Ray loved auctions and would bid a dollar, win and drag home 20 or more boxes of "treasures".
Ray loved going out to eat. He has fond memories of Crossroads, Mount Penn Family Restaurant, Williams Family Restaurant and the Marvel Ranch.
Ray is survived by his wife Shirley. He met her on April 4, 1968 in the waiting room of the Grand Central Station Terminal. He leaves son Louis, his wife Tina and their three brilliant and beautiful grandkids, Tyler, Louis, Jr. and Layla(all from North Carolina); son Theodore Iglesias and his wife Stephanie(from Connecticut); nephew Albert Wolske and his daughters Kylie and Jackie(New York), niece RoseMarie Bischoff and her sons John and Paul(New York), sister in law Sharon Graganta(Michigan) and several cousins. He leaves his five furry friends, cats Snowpuff, Corky, Midnight, Mr. Pitt and Pepe. They will miss their daddy.
The family wants to thank everyone who took care of Ray at Reading Hospital and also the nurses and staff at Heartland Hospice who made his last days comfortable. He put up a good fight and will be sorely missed.
Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 4:00 pm. Kathy L. Lentz, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 3-4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers it would be a kind gesture to send a donation to the Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in Ray's name, or perhaps a random act of kindness to someone would be appropriate. Ray was a kind and generous man. We will miss Him.
