Philip Michael LaScala, 73, of Reading PA, died June 17, 2022 at Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital.
He was married October 12, 1974 to Colleen Marie Duddy.
He was born in Pottstown, PA on December 17, 1948. He was a son of the late Michael and Helen LaScala.
He was a 1966 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military he attended Kings College in Wilkes Barre PA. He earned a degree in Special Education and was employed by LIU#18 for 35 years.
He was a member of Saint Margaret's Parish and attended mass daily.
Family, Faith, and Smooth Jazz were the three things closest to his heart.
Philip is also survived by his wife, Colleen and three children: Nicole Elena Somers, wife of Michael Somers. Samantha LaScala Miller, wife of Jesse Miller. Gabrielle Marie Mazar, wife of TC Mazar.
Other survivors include his brother Anthony LaScala, husband of Jackie LaScala. Sister in law Donna LaScala, wife of deceased brother Michael LaScala. Sister in law Denise Mogel, wife of Fred Mogel. Sister in law Sandy Duddy, wife of deceased brother in law Michael Duddy and Sister in law Sheila Duddy.
There are also "heaven seven" grandchildren: Lucia and Marcella Somers, Quinn, Polly and Hazel Miller, and Tommy and Rudy Mazar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church 925 Centre Ave. Reading, Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 am. Reverend John Maria, Celebrant. Inurnment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive relatives and friends at Saint Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church Thursday from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to John Paul II Center for Special Learning 1092 Welsh Road, Shillington, PA 19607 or Helping Harvest Food Bank 117 Morgan Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608 in memory of Mr. Philip Michael LaScala.
