Paul Koch

November 27, 1917 — May 7, 2017

Paul M. Koch, 99, of Spring Township, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the Reading Hospital. He was the beloved husband, of Clara (Feist) Koch. They were married on October 21, 1950. Born in Amity Township, he was the son of the late Samuel and Alice (Moyer) Koch.
Mr. Koch graduated from Amity High School in 1936, playing basketball and holding the highest point score for 12 years.
He proudly served in the United States Army from January 31, 1941 to September 20, 1945. He served as a Corporal transporting gasoline and ammunition with trips over 600 miles throughout Europe during World War II.
During his life he was employed at Berkshire Knitting Mills as a machine operator and Glidden Paints, retiring in 1982.
Paul was very involved. He was a life member of American Legion, Gregg Post #12 for 73 years; life member of the Liberty Fire Company #1, Sinking Spring; he became a life member in 2001 of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Washington Camp #1. After returning from service in World War II, he played basketball with the Amity A. C. for many years. He became a life member of the Reading & Berks Basketball Old-Timers in 1996. He was also a member of the Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn.
Mr. Koch was predeceased by his four sisters, his twin Pauline Koch Hartman, Martha Koch Levengood, Esther Koch Hartline, Myrtle Koch Gerth, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Marie and Stauffer Kutz; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; special neighbors Paul and Mary Ellen McIntyre; dear friend Rose Marie Day; the Keppel Ave Neighbors; all West Lawn Senior Trust Club Members; and many close friends who loved and cared about Paul during his lifetime. Special thanks to the Reading Hospital, N Building Nurses, Dr. Susmita Paladugu M.D., and Berks Visiting Nurses for keeping Paul in loving hands until the Lord received him.

Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:00AM. Pastor Mark Rigg will officiate. Interment will follow in Amityville Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, 9:00am-10:00am.
