Owen L. Gehris

Owen L. Gehris, 77, of Cumru Township, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 1:30 am in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Jean M. (Trievel) Gehris for 53 years. Born in Reading, Mr. Gehris was the son of the late Leon Bailey and Rose (Belles) Shultz. He was employed by Reading Truck Body in the maintenance department for 28 years until his retirement. He served in the Army for 3 years during the Vietnam War. He was member of Chapter 131 Vietnam Veterans, loved to fish, play golf, go to the casinos and spend time with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Mr. Gehris is survived by his son Jason M. Gehris husband of Abby N. (Sonnen) Gehris of Reading and his grandchildren Laila, Jerome, Chase, Rebecca (who was raised like a granddaughter); his sister (more like a daughter) Rochelle L. (Shultz) Pelachick wife of Michael Pelachick of Sinking Spring. He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle L. Ulrich wife of Dennis Ulrich of Mohnton and siblings Audrey Deblasi and Michael Shull Sr. Mr. Gehris is also survived by siblings Ronald Gehris husband of Tracy Gehris; Joan Conrad wife of Ray Conrad; Beverly Shultz companion of Mark Kowalski; Cheryl Hemmig wife of Irvin Hemmig. He is also survived by siblings: Jeffrey Bailey, James Bailey, Valerie Jones, Anna Marie Tucker, Ramona Haskins, Virginia Bailey, and Pat Simmons.

Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington Friday April 25, 2025 at 11:00 am. Reverend Mandy S. Miller will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and Topton American Legion Post 217 will follow at Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
