Olive Lorraine (Watson) Wright, 88, formerly of Cumru Township, passed away on April 2, at Chandler Hall in Newtown, Pennsylvania, a senior community where she resided since January 2016.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Wilbur, who passed away in 2013 and with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, and her siblings, Arthur Watson, Albert Watson, David Watson, John Watson, Betty Lindley, and Joan Frost, all of whom resided in the United Kingdom.
Born in Machen, Wales, United Kingdom, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Edith Nellie (Griffiths) Watson.
She worked as a hotel receptionist in England, where she met Wilbur. The couple traveled extensively due to Wilbur's work, living in several European countries, Singapore, New Zealand, and islands in the Pacific. The Wrights moved to Berks County, Pennsylvania, in the early 1960s.
Lorraine served as a homemaker and worked part-time as an aide for the Governor Mifflin School District in the 1970s and 1980s. She was active in the PTA as president and received a Pennsylvania PTA life membership award for her contributions. She became a United States citizen in 1977 and was featured as part of a newspaper story chronicling the event. Lorraine also worked part-time at CNA Insurance in Reading, retiring in the early 1990s. She served multiple terms as a Cumru Township Judge of Elections and poll worker.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, music, and watching PBS. She was active in church musical ministries, including choir, hand bell choir, worship team, and narration. Lorraine was involved with several Berks County churches over the years including Exeter Bible Church in Birdsboro, West Wyomissing Chapel, Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in Sinking Spring, and the former Community Bible Church in Reading. During their retirement years, Wilbur and Lorraine enjoyed many vacations traveling on the Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mary II ocean liners to the United Kingdom, Bermuda, the Caribbean, New England, and Canada.
She is survived by her son, Craig, husband of Judith, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, her brother, Gwyn Watson, of the United Kingdom, many nieces and nephews, and loving friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:30am in Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Rev. Robert A. Sloan, Jr. officiating. Friends are invited to call from 8:30-10:30am. Burial will be private in Alsace Cemetery, Reading.
