Norman F. Hess, Jr., 95, died September 10, 2022 in Promedica, Sinking Spring with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Gloria to whom he was married for 63 years. Born on December 5, 1926 in Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late Norman F. Hess and Agnes (Mace) Hess.
Norman grew up in Mt. Penn and graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1944. He later graduated from Penn State University in 1950 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma fraternity and the Chemical Engineering Society. He served in the 6th Infantry Division of the US Army during World War II and was stationed in Korea.
He was employed for over 40 years by Firestone Tire and Rubber in Pottstown as an HR and Labor Relations manager, retiring in 1992.
He was a longtime member of the former Windsor Street United Methodist Church where he served on the church council. He later attended Holy Cross United Methodist Church where he was a member of the church choir.
Norman loved spending time at the beach in Ocean City, NJ and also in Ocean City, Maryland where he and Gloria had a home and spent many fun times with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a member of the Reading Liederkranz choir. He enjoyed Penn State football games and was a season ticket holder for many years.
Surviving him are his four children: Linda Yeager, wife of Glenn Yeager of Muhlenberg Township; Greg Hess, husband of Carolyn Hess of Oviedo, Florida; Curtis Hess, husband of Deborah Hess of York, PA; Eric Hess, husband of Kathy Hess of Sinking Spring.
Other survivors include his 12 grandchildren: Melissa Yeager, Benjamin Yeager, husband of Margaret Yeager, Andrew Yeager, husband of Renee Yeager, Jenna (Hess) Rosamilia, wife of Gerald Rosamilia, Jamie (Hess) Triantafellu, wife of Matthew Triantafellu, Katharina Tomisato, Chantelle (Hess) Otto, wife of Dan Otto, Corinne (Hess) Faraone, wife of Salvo Faraone, Camaryn Hess, Curtis Hess, Amanda Hess, Madeline (Hess) Hill, wife of John Hill. There are also 15 great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family. He was our hero, our “Iron Man”.
Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 am. Reverend Jim Bertoti will officiate. Entombment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow at Memorial Mausoleum, Wyomissing Hills. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home, Monday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
