Norma Allison (Kight) Roberts - Born May 2, 1912 in Fort Branch, Indiana, died August 9, 2016 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Butts of Brazil, Indiana and two sons, Richard (Dick) Roberts of Fort Myers, Florida and Dan Roberts of Reading, Pennsylvania. She leaves five grandchildren, Jerry Butts, Debi (Butts) Sullivan and Susan (Butts) Treash, all of whom live in Indiana, Scott Roberts from California and Brett Roberts from Michigan. Additionally, she had six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Norma, the oldest of three girls, lived in Indiana much of her life. She met and married her husband when living near Terre Haute, Indiana where she then raised their three children as well as assisted in her husband's business. After retirement they moved to Reading. After the death of her husband, Norma continued to live on her own until she reached the age of 99 when, due to declining health, she entered the nearby Berks Heim nursing facility.
Norma became a Christian in her youth, a decision that she said changed her life, including her attitude, for the better. It was at church that she met her husband-to-be. Together Norma and Everett worked diligently in service to their community as well as to their church. Even in her declining yearsa"even when she was wheelchair-bounda"Norma, known by her many friends as a "prayer warrior," continued to pray for those in need. Her lifelong passion of being of service to others was founded in her belief that it was better to give than receive. When asked about her secret to living such a long life, she would say that her "secret" was prayer, studying the Bible, healthy living, a joyful heart and a deep trust in God. Ever the one to be grateful, one of the last things she said was, "God is so good."
