Nancy Merten

August 14, 1935 — May 7, 2016

Nancy Lee Merten, 80, formerly of Wyomissing, entered into the loving arms of Her Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:11 pm surrounded by her family in Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital. Nancy was the wife of the late Kenneth F. Merten who passed away July 27, 2008. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Mentor L. and Esther M. (Lindholz) Carr.
Nancy was a graduate of Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati. She married her husband Ken, on December 5th 1959. In 1960 they moved to Broomall, PA for Ken's job as an Aeronautical Space Engineer with General Electric. They lived in Broomall for 46 years where they had many friends and enjoyed raising their family. In 2006 they moved to Wyomissing, PA.
Nancy worked as a medical assistant and then stayed home to raise her 2 children. Deciding to follow her passion, she became a real estate agent for Century 21 in Broomall, PA and enjoyed that profession for 25 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church her whole life. In her free time, she enjoyed weekends on their boat and water skiing on the Chesapeake Bay, summers in Sea Isle City, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family. She was also a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed at the age of 46. Nancy always made the best of every situation in her life and really enjoyed each day she was given on this earth.
She is survived by her daughter Jana L. Mikes, wife of Donald R. Mikes, Jr. of Sinking Spring and son Jeffrey K. Merten, husband of Paige Merten of West Chester along with her grandchildren Alexandra, Alyssa and Amanda Mikes and Brendan and Megan Merten.
Memorial Service will be held in West Lawn United Methodist Church, Penn & Woodside Aves., West Lawn, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Terry Cooney will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in West Lawn United Methodist Church Saturday 10-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to West Lawn United Methodist Church 15 Woodside Ave., West Lawn, PA 19609 in memory of Mrs. Nancy Lee Merten.
