Milton L. Embree

Milton L. Embree, 100, of Wyomissing, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the Reading Hospital. He was married for over 70 years to Nadine M. Embree, who predeceased him on June 13, 2021. Born in Marceline, Missouri, Mr. Embree was the son of the late Ulyster ‘Bud’ M. and Dovie Virginia Embree. Milton served in the U. S Navy during World War II in the Pacific as a radioman on the heavy cruiser USS Pittsburgh, including when the ship’s bow broke off during a typhoon. After WWII he graduated from the University of Illinois with an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and later graduated with a master’s degree from Lehigh University. He worked for AT&T-Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for over 40 years on various transistor and integrated circuits for telephony, holding over 30 patents. He mentored numerous engineers including both his sons, and acted as a judge at the Reading-Berks Science Fair for multiple decades. He retired as Chief Scientist of the Reading Branch of the company. He continued to work on difficult science and engineering problems well into his 90s, and was a long time member of IEEE and Sigma Xi societies. He was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, Reading for over 60 years. He enjoyed photography and traveling the world with his wife for many years, often with his sons and family.

Mr. Embree was predeceased by his two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Sanguinetti of Lusby, Maryland and Mrs. Helen Virginia Burns of Toronto, Canada. Mr. Embree is survived by his sons David M. Embree, husband of Debra L. Nelson-Embree of Randolph, New Jersey and Paul M. Embree, whose fiancee is Diane L. Romanchick of Tustin, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren Evan R. Embree of Fort Collins, Colorado and Michael S. Embree of Santa Clara, California.

A Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home at 129 East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Reverend Dr. Steve Ohnsman will officiate. Interment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard will follow at Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, Shillington on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
