Melba Habel

Melba "Chris" Habel, 98, formerly of West Lawn, until becoming a resident at Cape May NJ, passed away on Friday June 22, 2018 at Victoria Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Habel Jr. who passed away on May 7, 1996. Born in Mahanoy City, she was the daughter of the late Harry Cattell and Hattie (Houser). During her life she was employed as a sewing machine operator for the former Penn Dale Knitting Mill in Sinking Spring for 10 years, retiring in 1977. She was a former member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring. Melba is survived by her children, John L. Habel III, husband of Kathryn Habel of Swainton, NJ; Jean E. Rhoads, wife of Tom Rhoads, of Robesonia; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and brother George Cattell, of Lancaster. She was predeceased by her brothers William, Harry and Thomas Cattell and sisters Jean Heffner and Mae McCormick.
