Maurice Lynn Shomgard, 73, of Lincoln Park, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:55 a.m. at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Friday.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Maurice F. Shomgard and Dorothy (Alltan) Aungst, and stepson of the late Lloyd H. Aungst.
He was the husband of Jane Ann (Bretz) Shomgard. The couple shared more than 50 wonderful years of marriage.
He was a 1954 graduate of Pottsville High School, and served with the U.S. Air Force During the Korean War. He was part of the 99th Combat Support Hospital in Lancaster, with the rank of CWO4.
He worked as an administrative technician for the Lancaster Reserve Center and Reading Reserve Center for more than 20 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a former volunteer fireman at Lincoln Park, and a former member of the Sonoco Bowling League at Berks Lanes. He was also a model airplane enthusiast.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Gregg A. Shomgard of Brecknock Twp., and Maurice Lynn Shomgard Jr., husband of Linda Shomgard of Florida.
There are also two grandchildren: Ethan and Gunner.
