Matthew Vardjan

Matthew Vardjan, 71, of Exeter Twp., passed away May 27, 2011 at 8:55 PM in his residence. He was the husband of Elaine M. (Becker) Vardjan. Born in Reading on March 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Matthew J. and Edith (Brobst) Vardjan.

Mr. Vardjan was a 1958 graduate of Reading High School, received a BS degree in Education from Kutztown University in 1972 and a Masters degree in Education from Lehigh University in 1975. He served in the US Army Reserve for 3 years.

Mr. Vardjan was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, a member and Past President of Reading-Berks Chapter of PA Guild of Craftsman, a Life Member of North American Hunting Club, PA Trappers Assoc., a Life Member of National Rifle Assoc., and Secretary/ Treasurer of Seneca Hunting Club in Potter County. Known as "The Star Man" he exhibited his craft at Kutztown Folk Festival since 1975.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Matthew P. Vardjan, husband of Nancy A. of Oley; Mark D. Vardjan, husband of Jean M. of Hanover; a daughter Rebecca A. (Vardjan) wife of Dennis Scalese of Newmanstown; 7 grandchildren Matthew J. Vardjan, Jeremiah Vardjan, Benjamin Vardjan, Jesse Vardjan, Colton Vardjan, Katelyn Scalese and Ethan Scalese; and four sisters Theresa Messner of Reading, Bernice Sellers of Palmyra, Vida Gerbino of Reading and Barbara A. Beck of Reading and a brother Kurt Lowther husband of Roberta of Reading. He was predeceased by a sister Edith Soltis.
