Mary Stoudt

Mary E. Stoudt, 84, of Wyomissing, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 at 7:00 am at the Highlands at Wyomissing Skilled Nursing Center.   Born in Reading, Ms. Stoudt was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Ada E. (Dechant) Stoudt.

She was a 1956 graduate of Wilson High School and received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art Education from Kutztown University.  She was an art teacher in the Tulpehocken, Hamburg, and Muhlenberg School Districts until her retirement when she then worked fulltime as an artist, exhibiting widely in diverse venues and winning awards at the regional, state, and national level for her innovative art quilts    From 1994 to 2010, she was the co-owner of Sisters’ Gallery, first in Sinking Spring and then in Stoudtburg Village.  She was one of the founding studio artists of Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading and was a member of the Unitarian Universal Church of Berks County, Reading Guild of Crafters, and the Berks Art Alliance.

Mary  Stoudt is survived by her daughter Sybil R. Thompson of Reading; her grandchildren Perry S. Thompson, husband of Ayla Thompson of Cumru Township; Ethan A. Thompson of Spring Township; her great grandchildren Zyra and Lucian Thompson; her sister Jean L. Cocuzza, wife of Anthony Cocuzza of Reading; her brother Edward D. Stoudt, husband of Carol Stoudt of Vergennes, Vermont and was preceded in death by her son Douglass E. Thompson, March 21, 2016, her daughter Tessa M. Thompson, and her sister Dorothy M. Schweitzer.  Ms. Stoudt is also survived by her daughter-in-law Lori B. (Schaeffer) Thompson of Sinking Spring and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Goggleworks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Ms. Mary E.
