Mary Lou Miller

Mary Lou Miller, 78, of Reading, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 am in her loving family’s presence at Penn State Health-St. Joseph Hospital.  Born in Reading, Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late John F. and Elizabeth R. (Hoyer) Gross.  She was born on March 30, 1945 and grew up in the Cherokee Ranch homes in Temple and then lived in Exeter Township for 38 years.  Mrs. Miller graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1963 and was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church and a former member of Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.  She last worked at Boscov’s Department Store, Exeter Township in public relations for 3 years and in the accounting department for 17 years.  Prior to Boscov’s Department Store Mrs. Miller worked as a secretary at Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Rectory from 1978 to 1991 and also at CNA and American Bank from 1963 to 1968.  She was a member of the Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Guitar Group from 1980-1990, playing guitar. She also organized their Sunday School for ages 4 and 5 in 1980 and helped chair numerous fund raisers for the Church and School.  Mrs. Miller loved holiday decorating, making crafts, crocheting, count cross stitch, crossword puzzles, card games, bingo, dancing, walks at Gring’s Mill, country rides in Lancaster and most of all playing with her grandsons.  Mrs. Miller is survived by her children Lisa B. Miller fiancé of Bernard Tomasky of Leesburg, Virginia; Robert T. Miller husband of Morgan E. Miller of Exeter Township; her grandsons Joshua and Alexander Miller and her sister Anne Waldron of Newmanstown.   

Prayer Service will be held at the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10:00 am.  Reverend Thomas P. Bortz will officiate.  Inurnment will follow.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608 in memory of Mrs. Mary Lou Miller.  Bean Funeral Homes & Crematory 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
