Mary Gundy

December 15, 1920 — August 29, 2015

Mary E. (Dunkleberger) Gundy of Lincoln Park, Reading, PA, died peacefully at home of natural causes with the help and comfort of family and Heartland Hospice as per her wishes. She was 94 years old.

Mary was the wife of Samuel C. Gundy. She was born on December 15, 1920. She was the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Kline) Dunkleberger of Reading.

Mary was a physical education teacher at Reading High School, West Reading High School, and Exeter Jr and Sr High Schools. In 1965 she joined the Reading YWCA as Program Coordinator. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball and Penn State football fan, and she seldom missed a game. She prepared for her career at and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College, now West Chester University.

She was a lifelong and active member of the Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church and sang in the choir there for 13 years. She was a member of the Green Valley Country Club and the Baird Ornithological Club.

Mary is survived by two children, Gregory S. Gundy of Sequim, Washington and Barbara L. (Gundy) Stover of Mohnton, Pennsylvania. She has 4 grandchildren and two great grand-children. She led a long, healthy, and happy life and the family invites you to rejoice with them in a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's memory to any of the following; Lincoln Park Community U.M. Church, 1 Carlisle Ave. Reading, PA 19609; Heartland Hospice, 4 Park Plaza, Wyomissing, PA 19610; Home Instead Senior Care, 2213 Quarry Drive, West Lawn, PA 19609.

Services will be held in Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Ave., Reading, PA 19609, Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 1:00pm, Rev. David McMillan officiating. There will be a private burial in the Gundy family plot in Alsace Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at church 12:00-1:00pm.
