Mary Dowd

Mary Jane Dowd, 89, of Laureldale, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 6:12 am in her residence. She was the wife of Glenn R. Dowd. Born in Middleport, Schuylkill County, Mrs. Dowd was the daughter of the late Wilmon B. and Caroline L. (Schafer) Ruch.
Sharing a love of reading with family members, she was never without a book and always ready with a favorite recommendation. Fiercly patriotic and often stoic, Jane was always full of cherished memories. Most of all she was a loyal wife, doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
She was employed as a secretary at Boscov's North and East in Reading and then at General Battery in Reading. Mrs. Dowd was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son David R. Dowd, husband of Cheryl A. Dowd of Riverview Park and her daughters Eileen E. Kistler, wife of Kenneth H. Kistler of Bern Township and Carolyn K. Guenst, wife of David Guenst of Souderton and 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. Reverend Richard A. Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home Friday 10:00-11:00 am.
