Allen, Mary Elizabeth "Marie" (nee Vadasz), 79, of Wernersville and Sinking Spring, formerly of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, passed away August 31, 2017 at the Reading Hospital.
Born on February 2, 1938 in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. Vadasz and Catherine (Ender) Vadasz. Mary was a 1955 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School.
Mary was the beloved wife of William J. Allen. They were married December 26, 1959 in St. John Capistrano Church, Bethlehem; they were married 57 years.
Mary worked as an office administrator for Advantest America, Inc. Prior to that she worked at Moravian College and Moravian Archives.
Mary was a voracious reader. She was given special permission to read select books in the adult section of the Bethlehem Public Library at the age of 8 having read all of the children's books. She was most interested in history and biographies of historical figures. Mary also enjoyed taking family vacations to American historical sites and museums.
Mary was very active in her children's lives, having been both a Brownie Leader and Girl Scout Leader for many years. She instilled in them the love of reading, music and the arts. Mary delighted in her grandchildren and hearing of their accomplishments. Mary was bright, kind and generous. She spent her life caring for her family and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Mary E. Rosenberry (Steven), of West Lawn; Catherine Thoma (Morgan), of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 2 grandchildren, William Rosenberry, of Santa Barbara, California, and Madeline Thoma, at home, and brother, Thomas P. Vadasz, of Bethlehem.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Edward, and James.
