Mark Smith

August 22, 1926 — July 21, 2017

Mark T. Smith, 90, formerly of Reading, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 in Berks Heim. Born in Hamburg, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Nevin B. and May Sarah (Balthaser) Smith. He was a 1944 graduate of Hamburg High School and from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1964. He also attended Franklin & Marshall College, Philadelphia College of Bible and ministered at Berean Bible Fellowship Church in Stroudsburg. Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy as a Fireman First Class on the USS California during World War II, especially during the Battle of Okinawa for which he received the American Theater Ribbon, the Pacific Theater Ribbon(1 star) and the Victory Medal. He was an agent/clerk for the Reading Railroad/Conrail in Reading for 25 years until his retirement. From 1993 to 2013 he worked in data entry for Maxwell Enterprises Software, also known as, Synergy Software. Mr. Smith is survived by his sister Carol Greenawalt of Sun City West, Arizona along with 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Lee S. Smith, sisters Grace DeLong and Lillian Fleagle.
Funeral Service will be held in Grace Bible Fellowship Church 1128 Hampden Blvd. Reading, PA 19604 Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 10:00 am. Reverend Randall A. Grossman will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Hamburg. The family will receive relatives and friends in Grace Bible Fellowship Church Thursday 9:00-10:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Grace Bible Fellowship Church at the above address in memory of Mr. Mark T. Smith.
